Steve Lacy – 1995

Blog has been on hiatus due to technical problems with the hoster. This happened just as I was putting together my favorite tune o’ 2009 compendium. Such a task is formidible simply because I don;t go about my listening habit with much sense of what came out when, besides tracking the handful–no, two handfuls– of artists I follow closely.

Steve Lacy, (Wikipedia) who passed away in june, 2004, is one of those artists. In fact, I’d like to hear every note he ever played. (Steve Lacy

Something special, and even a bit unusual:

15 Seconds

(Frederic Rzewski, recounted by Derek Bailey) “One day in 1968. I ran into Steve Lacy on the street in Rome. I took out my pocket tape recorder and asked him to describe in fifteen seconds the difference between composition and improvisation. He answered, “In fifteen seconds, the difference between composition and improvisation is that in composition you have all the time you want to decide what to say in fifteen seconds, while in improvisation you have fifteen seconds”.
